Kier Matthews is the National Accounts Manager at Europe Express, where he is responsible for travel agent sales and marketing. Prior to his job at Europe Express, Matthews was a Manager of Member Sales & Service at Virtuoso, the travel industry’s leading luxury travel network. While at Virtuoso, Matthews was an integral part of the network’s social media engagement. He conducted seminars for travel agents and suppliers on how to use social media to grow their business. As well as help establish Virtuoso’s corporate social media policy.
Matthews started his career in hospitality working part-time at the Sheraton Capitol Center Hotel. Over the course of three years Matthews was promoted several times, ending his tenure as the Evening Hotel Manager. After completing his degree at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, Matthews worked for Starwood Hotels & Resorts as Front Office Manager at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco and the Westin Seattle. Matthews joined the management team at the Sorrento Hotel in 2004 where he served as Guest Service Manager. In 2006, Matthews joined the leading small ship cruise line, Cruise West, as Guest Relations Manager until he joined Virtuoso in 2008.
Before Matthews entered the travel industry, he was a leading influencer in the political arena.
Today, Matthews spends much of his free time participating in civic service activities. In 2008 he was honored as one of 30 Outstanding African-American Fathers of Puget Sound. His numerous volunteer efforts include completing United Way of King County’s Project LEAD program, serving as a committee member of the inaugural Thurgood Marshall College Fund Community Awards Reception. In 2007, Matthews chaired the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Puget Sound’s 42nd Annual Dinner and Auction Gala — the most successful auction to date. Currently he sits on the Governing Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound.
Matthews and his wife Heather are the proud parents of two daughters, Giovanni (16) and Isabella (5). When Matthews is not busy with family, volunteering and work he enjoys reading a great business book.
